ARTICLE 1 – DATES
The Corrado GEX Ski Club of Arvier (AO) is organising on the 3–4–5 April 2009 the international ski mountaineering team competition entitled « 14th Tour du Rutor Extrême », World Cup final event and 7th "Trophée des Alpes".


ARTICLE 2 – ADMISSION AND CATEGORIES
Admission to the 14th TOUR DU RUTOR EXTREME 2009 “World Cup Final” is only possible if both team members have the same nationality. The JUVENILE categories are exempt from this regulation.

Athletes must be members of FISI or equivalent foreign sports federations, for the current year.

The categories admitted are the following:
Senior: Men and Women (two-member teams) for athletes born between 1964 - 1988 (having reached the age of 21);
Master: Men and Women (two-member teams) for athletes born in and before 1963;
Junior: Men and Women (two-member teams) for athletes born in the years 1989 – 1990 – 1991;
Cadet: Boys and Girls (two-member teams) for athletes born in the years 1992 – 1993 – 1994 and those who have reached the age of 15.
Mixed couples (for category and/or sex) will be accepted.



ARTICLE 3 – EQUIPMENT
Each athlete is directly and personally responsible for all the equipment he/she uses during the competition. In enrolling, every athlete guarantees the technical efficiency of his equipment and its conformity to the “ISMF” international technical regulations for the senior category and to the Italian “FISI” federal regulations for the junior and cadet categories. For safety reasons, every athlete, during the different competition stages, must carry his own equipment. Exceptions are made for skis and sealskins that can be carried by the team companion during the walking stretches: skis must be fixed on the back of the rucksack (not slung across the front), using the correct safety straps. During the competition you can change your equipment only if broken and after this has been officially ascertained: this check must be carried out by the nearest checkpoint that will immediately communicate the replacement to the International and FISI Technical Delegate. The organisation is under no obligation to provide alternative equipment in case of breakage or damage.


ARTICLE 4 - INDIVIDUAL EQUIPMENT NECESSARY FOR ALL CATEGORIES

COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT FOR THE CLASSIC TECHNIQUE COMPETITIONS

• A pair of skis suitable for ski touring

Minimum height 160cm for men and 150cm for the ladies and junior categories; with metal edges for at least 90% of their length; minimum width 60cm, measured at the centre of the ski, i.e. the narrowest part. Measurements declared by the manufacturers are accepted, who will be held totally responsible for these declarations.

• A pair of boots suitable for ski touring:

The boots must be high enough to cover the ankles and with rapid and safe crampon coupling devices; they must have closing devices for the main part of the boot and the sock – as well as a blocking device for the inclination between boot and sock. Various types of adhesive tape and elastic bandaging will not be considered valid, whereas laces and Velcro will be accepted. All blocking devices and boot soles sold on the open market by manufacturers – as long as they have not been modified – will be accepted. Other types of sole and modified soles will be accepted only if they have the following requisites:
- the minimum outer surface area of the heels, in contact with the ground, must be 1cm²
- the sole must be made of rubber material such as Vibram or similar;
- the sole of each boot but be notched and cover at least 75% of the surface area;
- the minimum number of notches per boot is 23:15 in the front and 8 on the heel;
- the minimum depth of the notches must be 4mm;

• A pair of bindings

The bindings must be suitable for ski touring and if desired, can have safety straps. They must block the boot, at the back during downhill skiing and have safety release devices at the front, side, toe and heel;

• A pair of ski poles, maximum diameter not exceeding 25mm, without padding. Metal discs are not allowed;
• A thermal cover size 180 x 200cm;
• An ARVA, internationally recognised model, to be worn next to the skin, fully functioning and transmitting during the entire race. A transmitter alone is not allowed;
• A snow shovel, minimum size 20 x 20cm. It must not have undergone modifications. The name “snow shovel” is given by the manufacturer who assumes full responsibility for its name and use;
• A snow probe, minimum length 240cm, minimum diameter 10mm. It must not have undergone modifications. The name “snow probe” is given by the manufacturer who assumes full responsibility for its name and use;
• A rucksack with shoulder-straps, as well as 2 straps for carrying the skis, able to contain all the equipment foreseen under the regulations;
• Three sealskins. For environmental reasons, the use of adhesive tape or similar materials, to improve the smoothness of the sealskins, is absolutely forbidden;
• Clothing for the upper part of the body: three layers, two with long sleeves, the entrant’s size, plus a windcheater;
• Clothing for the lower part of the body: two layers made up of a pair of trousers or snowsuit, the entrant’s size, and a pair of wind-resistant trousers of the same size;
• A helmet suitable for mountaineering, free climbing or ski touring, UIAA or CE approved, to be worn throughout the competition;
• A pair of gloves to be worn throughout the competition;
• A knit cap, headband or snowsuit hood;
• A pair of glasses or eye-shade;
• A third thermal layer with long sleeves, the entrant’s size;
• A harness, UIAA approved, not modified;
• A pair of crampons with minimum 10 spikes (minimum length 3cm), which must be carried inside the rucksack, spike to spike, and have the safety straps tied when in use. They must not have undergone any modifications;
• A “longe” certified “Kit for cable route”, UIAA approved - regulation 128;
• Two snap links with automatic locking, type K - regulation 121.
The Jury reserves the right to refuse any item of equipment considered defective or inadequate.


ARTICLE 5 – SAFETY AND BEHAVIOURAL REGULATIONS
Athletes must respect the following regulations: International “ISMF” regulations for the senior category and Italian “FISI” regulations for the junior and cadet categories.

ARTICLE 6 – PENALTIES AND DISQUALIFICATION
Penalties will be in accordance with International “ISMF” regulations for the senior category and Italian “FISI” regulations for the junior and cadet categories, and will be applied by the Competition Jury, their collaborators and area personnel, when the final official classification is drawn up.

ARTICLE 7 – ENTRANCE FEE
The entrance fee for the 14th Tour du Rutor, taking place on 3-4–5 April 2009, covers:
• competition enrolment fee;
• technical assistance and refreshment along the competition routes;
• participation prize
• closing dinner on Sunday 5 April;
and costs:
• for the SENIOR and MASTER categories, 195.00 Euro per team.
• for the CADET and JUNIOR categories, 150.00 Euro per team;
Entrance fee does not include overnight stay.
The Entrance Fee must be paid before Wednesday 25 22 March using the following means of payment:
• credit card payment using the web on-line ENROLMENT page

ARTICLE 8 – ENROLMENT FORMALITIES
Enrolments, together with the enclosures, must arrive before Wednesday 25 22 March: online at the page ENROLMENT and sending the following enclosures to the e-mail allegati@tourdurutor.com:
• Medical certificate declaring physical fitness for competition sport, certified by the president of the entrant’s ski club, using the FISI 61 form (it will be the President of the athlete’s Ski Club or national Federation who will guarantee the entrant is in possession of the medical certificate and is a fully paid up member of a Federation: both for the athletes belonging to the Association of which he is President as well as belonging to other Associations enrolled by him).
• Copy of the bank credit transfer or receipt of Credit Card payment of the enrolment fee.
Enrolments will not be accepted without proof of the payment of the enrolment fee.
Enrolments are only valid if complete with all the required enclosures (copy bank credit transfer or receipt of Credit Card payment, form filled out by President of the Ski Club and full details of both competitors).


ARTICLE 9 – ASSIGNATION OF NUMBERS AND BRIEFING
Numbers as well as competition packs must be collected on Thursday 2 April at the competition office, c/o Arvier Primary School (conference room) from 1.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
The World Cup leader (M/F) will have a red entry number throughout the three stages.
On 2 April at 5.30 p.m. there will be the competition presentation featuring a film showing the three routes.
On 3 and 4 April at 5.30 p.m. c/o Valgrisenche’s “Vieux Quartier” events room and c/o Arvier Primary School, (conference room), the day’s classifications will be available as well as communications of eventual variations to the stage of the following day.
IMPORTANT: as the briefing is very important at least one member of each team MUST BE present.


ARTICLE 10 – COMPETITION ROUTE
FIRST STAGE – ARP-VIELLE
This is the route for the SENIOR and MASTER category:
Start at 8.00 a.m. from Mondange (Valgrisenche) (1672m) and ascent, crossing the Beauregard dam wall on foot, passing the village of Bonne (1819m), up to the altitude of 2350m at Grand-Coussa; descent to the Arp-Vieille mountain pastures (2100m), ascent to the top of Mont Arp-Vieille (2963m) and then crossing the entire crest on foot as far as the Fourclaz du Brie pass (2907m). Descent on skis as far as altitude 2450m, then ascent of the wide valley on the left hand side of the valley, finishing with a stretch on foot, equipped with fixed ropes, to the base of the Rutor glacier (Morion pass 3066m); finally you descend passing by the Angeli Mountain Hut (2868m), then the village of Bonne (1819m), crossing the Beauregard dam wall; arrival at Mondange (1672m).
Positive altitude difference + 2157m / Negative altitude difference - 2157m


This is the route for the CADET and JUNIOR categories:
Start at the village of Bonne (1819m), as far as an altitude of 2350m at Grand-Coussa, descent to the Arp-Vieille mountain pastures (2100m), ascent of the wide valley on the left hand side of the valley leading to a stretch on foot, equipped with fixed ropes, to the base of the Rutor glacier (Morion pass 3066m), finally you descend passing by the Angeli Mountain Hut (2868m), then the village of Bonne (1819m), crossing the Beauregard dam wall; arrival at Mondange (1672m).
Positive altitude difference + 1497m / Negative altitude difference - 1644m


SECOND STAGE – TOUR DU RUTOR

This is the route for the SENIOR and MASTER category:
Start at 8,00 a.m. from Planaval (Arvier) (1554m) and ascent to the Orfeuille (1982m) and Plan Petet mountain pastures (2282m), up to an altitude of 2863m on the edge of the Château Blanc glacier (checkpoint and refreshment), descent to altitude 2550m (checkpoint) and then ascent of the wide valley that brings you to the Planaval pass (3010m). From the pass you climb on foot - 200m altitude difference - and then continue on skis to the checkpoint of Punta Flambeau (3320m); from this point onwards you have to remove your sealskins, do a small descent then continue on foot, skis must be strapped on the rucksack, along the crest as far as the point where the descent of the North-East side begins to the Rutor glacier, then go on towards the Château Blanc pass (checkpoint and refreshment), then on foot climb to the peak of Château Blanc (3422m). The descent down the Château Blanc glacier will bring you back to the mountain pastures of Plan Petet (2282m) and Orfeuille (1982m), towards the finishing line at Planaval (1554m).
Positive altitude difference + 2294m. / Negative altitude difference - 2294m

The stage should be finished by 1.00 p.m., the time will be taken when the second member of the team passes the finishing line. For safety reasons you must be at altitude 2863m 2¼ hours after the start; athletes arriving late at this checkpoint will have to go back down along the ascent track. Each team will be able to leave the checkpoint only when the controller has registered both athletes.

This is the route for the CADET and JUNIOR categories:
Start at 8.15 a.m. from Planaval (Arvier) (1554m) and ascent “NOT TIMED” to the Orfeuille mountain pasture (1982m) to where the real Start will take place at 9.30 a.m. Ascent to the Plan Petet mountain pasture (2282m), to an altitude of 2863m with a stretch on foot along the edge of the Château Blanc glacier (checkpoint and refreshment), descent along the right hand side of the valley as far as the Orfeuille mountain pasture (1982m), then climb on foot the gully equipped with fixed ropes; using skis pass the checkpoint near the Plan Petet Alta mountain pasture (2350m), and then you finally descend towards the finishing line at Planaval (1554m).
Positive altitude difference + 1249m / Negative altitude difference – 1678m

THIRD STAGE – PLONTAZ
This is the route for the SENIOR and MASTER category:
Start at 8.00 a.m. from Mondange (Valgrisenche) (1672m) and ascent to the Prariond mountain pasture (2038m) on the left side of the valley, to altitude (2656m) near the top of Truc de la Seylaz, descent towards Praz Londzet (2186m), ascent, including equipped stretch on foot with a 100m-altitude difference; then on skis as far as the Sigaro (2744m), descent to Catin–Plontaz mountain pasture (2297m), ascent to the Quattro Denti pass (2690m) with a stretch on foot along the crest and final direct descent towards Mondange (1672m).
Positive altitude difference + 1874m / Negative altitude difference -1874m

This is the route for the CADET and JUNIOR categories:
Start at 9.00 a.m. from the Beauregard dam wall (1763m) and ascent to Praz Londzet (2186m), ascent on foot along equipped path with altitude difference of 100m; then on skis as far as the Sigaro (2744m), descent to Catin–Plontaz mountain pasture (2297m), ascent to the Quattro Denti pass (2690m) with a stretch on foot along the crest and final direct descent towards Mondange (1672m).
Positive altitude difference +1374m / Negative altitude difference - 1465m


ARTICLE 11 – ROUTE VARIATIONS
The Organisation and Jury, at any moment and for any reason, can make necessary changes to the foreseen routes or to these regulations, in order to ensure the safety of the athletes and the regular procedure of the event.
Any changes to the routes will be posted up at the start of the stage and will be communicated during the briefing the day before each stage.


ARTICLE 12 – COMPLAINTS
See. Art. 6.3 of the “International” “ISMF” regulations, and Art. 10.10.2 of the “Italian” “FISI” regulations.


ARTICLE 13 – RESPONSABILITIES

The Organisation, given the nature of the competition, declines all responsibility for any accident incurred by athletes or to third parties involved in the carrying out of the race.

In the ambit of the 14th Tour du Rutor the following trophies will be awarded:
Tour du Rutor Trophy, triennial consecutive event, to be awarded to the overall winning team.

Memorial Remo Brédy Trophy, triennial consecutive event, kindly offered by the Brédy family and awarded to the first team of athletes resident in Aosta Valley.

Memorial Yves Bertossi Trophy, annual, kindly offered by the Bertossi family and awarded in the Senior category to the first team made up of athletes, members at the Ski club of the Comunità Montana Grand-Paradis, while for the Junior and Cadet boys’ categories the trophy will be awarded to the first teams made up of athletes resident in Aosta Valley.

The "Trophée des Alpes", will be awarded to the overall winning team, summing up the times of the 24th Pierra Menta Race, 12-15 March 2009 (Link Pierra Menta) and the Tour du Rutor Extrême.



ARTICLE 15 – FURTHER REGULATIONS
N.B. Any details not specified in these regulations are covered by the international “ISMF” regulations and the Italian “FISI” regulations.
